The signature is read from the bytes. Decompressed output is verified against the trailer (CRC32 and length) before any download appears, gzip is one stream, not a multi-file archive, and concatenated members are refused.

What this tool does not do
  • No timestamps on write, MTIME is pinned to 0 (deterministic output, no leaked dates). The stored FNAME is a naming hint only, never a path.
  • No concatenated multi-member streams. A .gz carrying several members fails verification and is refused whole.
  • No archives here: one stream in, one stream out. To bundle files use the ZIP or tar tools.
